The Official Logo of Singkaban Fiesta

Singkaban festival started in 1998 as part of the celebration of Linggo ng Bulacan but since 2005, the whole Linggo ng Bulacan has been dubbed as Singkaban Festival.

Singkaban, being the decorative bamboo arc used in Philippine fiestas originally came from Bulacan. That is why this is the symbol used to represent the unique celebration of the historic and cultural festival of the province. For the arts and culture department, Singkaban also means "SINinG at KAlinangan ng BulacAN".

It was during a department heads' meeting that Singkaban became the new label of Linggo ng Bulacan. Arts and Culture Officer Arman Sta. Ana and I suggested to then Provincial Administrator Gladys Sta. Rita that it's high time to decide whether Linggo ng Bulacan is a festival or a political/social affair. During those times, the weight given to simple public service affairs and to festival activities were just the same. I asked PA Gladys whether Linggo ng Bulacan is a festival or a political affair, she said it is both. I asked again if we could decide which is which. During that time, there was a plan to really promote the festival nationwide to achieve greater mileage, following the success of famous festivals in the country. I explained in the meeting that if we really wanted to achieve that mileage, we had to agree that Linggo ng Bulacan is a festival, hence, hold big festival activities rather than numerous but small and usual political activities.

In the end, PA Gladys agreed. As an initial strategy, we decided to use SINGKABAN FIESTA as the festival name but we will still have to use the word "Linggo ng Bulacan" as a subtitle, at least during the transition period. Numerous political/social activities which can actually be done on regular days was minimized and the focus was given to festival activities.

Another strategy was to create a logo for Singkaban fiesta and Arman asked me to do one. I prepared an initial draft and thank God, Arman liked it. I used a font which looks like a bamboo for the word singkaban and put colorful buntings to hold the word fiesta. We presented it to PA Gladys and she approved it. From then on, this has become the official logo of the Singkaban Fiesta.
